White Sox Players Ease Any Concerns After Minor Injuries Are Announced

-

You have to admit that you never want to see any of your guys dealing with injuries even if they are just considered minor and are right at the start of spring training. BUT it is only Feb. 12, and White Sox fans shouldn’t be concerned about a trio of minor injuries that Rick Hahn announced on Wednesday.

The White Sox GM said that free agent pick ups Yasmani Grandal and Gio Gonzalez along with Lucas Giolito will miss the first week of spring training games. The three players are dealing with various aches and pains as more players begin to report to camp.

Again, no need to worry. I mean, for Grandal, it just seemed like the veteran pulled a savvy move to get out of some running.

Meanwhile, Giolito’s 2019 season ended prematurely as he was shut down in the middle of September because of a mild lat strain. Nevertheless, he’s been down in Arizona for more than a week and the right-handed pitcher isn’t at all worried about the mild muscle injury he has now.

Giolito even threw on Wednesday.

As for Gonzalez, the 34-year-old lefty has been incredibly reliable for a decade, making at least 27 starts from 2010-18. He made 17 starts in 2019 for the Brewers and the only reason he didn’t make more was because the Yankees kept him down in the minors during the first month of the year before the veteran eventually asked for his release and signed with Milwaukee.

So, take a deep breath, White Sox fans.
