White Sox Option Catcher To Schaumburg, Activate Nick Madrigal From IL

-

The White Sox are rolling right now and have a chance at taking over first place in the AL Central this weekend. They’re also getting back Nick Madrigal, who went down with an injury early in August after an awkward slide at third base against the Brewers.

Madrigal has been activated from the injured list and will be in the lineup Friday night against the Royals. To make room on the 28-man roster, the White Sox optioned catcher Zack Collins to Schaumburg.

With Madrigal returning the White Sox obviously improve their overall depth. Danny Mendick, who has filled in for Madrigal at second base, will now move to the bench. Mendick has exceeded all expectations during the past three weeks, so he’s still a great guy to have available in case of emergency. He’s now essentially taking over Leury Garcia’s role on the team, after the utility man went on the 45-day IL with a thumb injury earlier in August.
