The South Bend Cubs capped off a perfect postseason with a 5-0 win over the Clinton LumberKings Saturday night, when the Cubs minor league affiliate won the 2019 Midwest League Championship.
Right-handed starting pitcher Riley Thompson was incredible for South Bend, throwing five no-hit innings and striking out 10, while two-run homers from Levi Jordan and Andy Weber gave South Bend a 4-0 lead through five innings. Weber drove in another run in the ninth and it was more than enough, as Fauris Guerrero, Eugenio Palma and Brian Glowicki combined to throw four scoreless innings after Thompson’s dominant start.
