The Cubs have seen their division lead dwindle down to one game after scoring six runs in their series loss against the Brewers. Joe Maddon is looking for anything to spark the offense, so he’s going back to what’s worked before.
Anthony Rizzo is back in the leadoff spot. Not only that, but for Thursday’s make up game against the Nationals, David Bote is starting in left field, with Ian Happ in center and Kris Bryant in right.
Daniel Murphy, who has been leading off since he was traded to the Cubs, has been moved to the three spot. Murphy’s OBP with the Cubs has been below .300, with his recent slump.
Victor Caratini gets the start at catcher, as Mike Montgomery squares off against Joe Ross.
