Cubs GM Jed Hoyer Confirms New Bench Coach

-

The Chicago Cubs have made several changes to their coaching staff this offseason and GM Jed Hoyer confirmed two more on Thursday.

After Dave Martinez departed to become the Washington Nationals manager, Joe Maddon had to find a new bench coach and that will be Brandon Hyde.

Hyde has been with the Cubs since 2013 and was the first base coach for the last three years. He previously served as the Cubs bench coach before Maddon was hired prior to the 2015 season.

Ken Rosenthal reports that Hyde was offered the bench coach position by the New York Mets, but the Cubs wanted to keep him.

Meanwhile, Jim Hickey was also finally confirmed as the new pitching coach, coming over from the Tampa Bay Rays. Hickey replaces Chris Bosio, who is now with the Detroit Tigers.
