Sure, there are several teams that haven’t made any huge moves, but obviously Cubs fans thought the front office would do something bigger than signing Daniel Descalso by now. Anyway, it’s been a really slow offseason and nothing proves that more than the good folks over at MLB Trade Rumors posting an article about the Cubs signing a couple minor leaguers.
And yes, these minor signings happen all the time and they’re written about all the time, but what makes this specific post special is that both Jim Adduci and Philip Evans were signed TWO WEEKS AGO!

Talk about a slow news day, slow news week, slow news month, slow offseason.
I guess that’s now the new norm for MLB and you know what, it kind of sucks. But at least that means we should see a barrage of signings packed into the next eight weeks, right?
Anyway, you can read more about Evans down below and a few other minor-league signings by the Cubs.
Though, I will admit, completely missed the Adduci signing.
Some other interesting minor-league deals signed:
Erasmo Ramirez – Red Sox
Jim Adduci – Cubs
Nick Ramirez (converted to RP) – Tigers— Brandon Warne (@Brandon_Warne) December 19, 2018
And no, you haven’t heard of him. OK, fine, maybe you have.
Adduci used to be in the Cubs farm system, starting off at A-Ball in 2007, and eventually got to Triple-A in 2012. However, Adduci couldn’t quite make it to the majors in the Cubs organization. He did make his MLB debut in 2013, with the Rangers and played in 61 games for Texas from 2013-14. His latest trip to the show was with the Tigers, appearing in 29 games in 2017, and 59 in 2018.
Adduci can play some outfield, primarily the corner positions and first base. He has a career slash of .235/.286/.340, in 149 MLB games. Last season at Triple-A, the left-handed hitter batted .309, with a .358 OBP and .474 slugging percentage in 70 games.
He was drafted by the Marlins back in 2003 and hey maybe you have heard of him, as Adduci went to school in Evergreen Park.
So, yay, more minor league depth!
Yeah, it is a slow news day.
