The Cubs had a disappointing end to their 2018 season and there probably aren’t many people at the MLB level feeling pretty good about themselves. However, bench coach Brandon Hyde has to be feeling himself right now because all of a sudden his name is being connected to open managerial positions all across baseball.
Hyde, who started his coaching career with the Marlins, worked himself through the minors before landing his first MLB gig in Miami. He was hired by the Cubs in 2014, to be Ricky Renteria’s bench coach and even with a new manager in 2015, the Cubs kept him, making Hyde the first base coach.
After 2017, the Mets were interested in bringing in Hyde, but the Cubs wanted to keep him and promoted him back to bench coach. However, the Cubs might not be able to keep Hyde much longer.
As of Monday, Hyde had reportedly interviewed with three teams for their manager position, the Angels, Rangers and Twins.

So, that’s four of five American League teams with vacant manager positions that have interviewed Hyde. The only team that still hasn’t are the Orioles. But, you know, maybe Hyde just doesn’t want to interview for that job.
The Cubs already replaced hitting coach Chili Davis with Anthony Iapoce, and it looks like they may need to replace Hyde soon.
