Bromances are rare in professional sports, which is why you should cherish them whenever they pop up. It appears the Chicago Bears have one on their hands after the 1st round of the draft. The first indicators came when Caleb Williams tweeted he was on the same flight to Detroit as wide receiver Rome Odunze, who he was a big fan of. Odunze responded that he was the pilot and would get the QB to the draft safely. It then came out shortly later that the two had held a throwing session together.
Williams admitted he hoped to either reunite with high school teammate Olu Fashanu with the 9th pick or one of the receivers. Odunze revealed that his first NFL jersey was Brian Urlacher, and Devin Hester was his favorite player growing up. Everything kept pointing in a certain direction. Sure enough, the Bears obliged by taking him at #9. Williams was seen backstage having an animated reaction when the pick was announced. He was thrilled.
When Odunze stepped in for a brief interview with Bears media, the quarterback decided to crash it.
Caleb Williams keeps proving he’s different.
This is such a stark contrast to what Bears fans experienced with Justin Fields in 2021. He was home when they selected him and didn’t have much of a reaction. Williams? He came out to the stage with a big scream, excited about the opportunity in front of him. He took a selfie with fans and then decided to embrace his new teammate. This is the kind of personality the organization wants at quarterback. There is nothing passive about what Williams does. He is purposeful in his approach.
It isn’t hard to see why Odunze likes him already. Caleb Williams enters the best situation any #1 pick has ever had. Most teams picking that high have depleted rosters with few weapons. Williams will have Odunze, D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet. The Bears have loaded up. They are ready to hand the keys to him. Odunze won’t have to be the guy right away. He gets to learn from two of the NFL’s best. This setup is something fans never dreamed was possible barely a year ago.

I can already see the commentators as Caleb is scrambling saying “Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo?”
