Surprising Players Chosen as Bears 2025 Captains

-

It’s finally game week for the Bears, and with it comes the announcement of team captains for the 2025 season. Each year, this process is worth watching. Under the previous head coach, the Bears rotated captains weekly. New head coach Ben Johnson took a different approach—he let the players vote. Which is by far the best method in my opinion.

The Bears selected five captains:

No surprise seeing the quarterback on the list. If Williams hadn’t been chosen, that would’ve raised serious questions. Thuney was an expected pick—Super Bowl champ and All-Pro. Jarrett was a surprise at first, but the veteran was a respected leader in Atlanta and brings that same presence here. Byard has long been known as a strong locker room voice. Santos makes sense as the special teams rep. Below you can find my full breakdown of the Bears 2025 team captains.

What stands out more are the names missing: Montez Sweat, Jaylon Johnson, DJ Moore, and Tremaine Edmonds. These are among the team’s highest-paid players, yet none were selected. Moore’s absence is notable after some concerning body language last year. Johnson missed all of camp, which likely factored into him not being selected. Sweat is a quieter personality, so perhaps that worked against him.

Ultimately, the players voted, and you can’t argue with the results—it shows who truly commands respect in the locker room.

Seems Chicago Bears May Have Another Pass Rush Option After All
