Sunday’s game between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears could be a make or break situation for several in the Bears organization. The pressure is mounting for team owner George McCaskey to fire Head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace if the team has a bad showing in their final five games. Nagy has more of a chance of getting fire than Pace, and if Pace gets to chose another head coach, Panther offensive coordinator Joe Brady would be the right choice.

Brady Has A Very  Detailed Offensive Resume

One of the main reasons why Brady will be one of the more desired head-coaching candidates this offseason is because of his detailed and diverse coaching resume. In 2017 and 2018, he served as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints. During those two seasons, the Saints had one of the best offenses in football as they ranked in the top five in total offense both seasons.

The success with the Saints helped Brady become the passing game coordinator and wide receiver coach for the 2019 National Champion LSU Tigers. The Tigers’ offense was historic as they featured the first 5,000-yard passer, the first two receivers to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving on the same team, and a 1,000-yard rusher. Brady worked to help develop quarterback Joe Burrow into a Heisman winner along which then led to Burrow becoming the number one overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Now, as the offensive coordinator for the Panthers this season, Brady has developed a Panthers offense that has been efficient. They have scored 23 or more points in six of their games this season. It is even more impressive as the Panthers have been without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey for nine games. Carolina’s quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could potentially be named to the Pro Bowl This season also.

Pace Would Have A Pipeline For College Talent

Pace could benefit by hiring Brady because of Brady’s extensive knowledge of the college game. One of the few drawbacks to both coaches hired previously by the Bears’ general manager is that they had no first-hand experience with college prospects. Brady would provide that to Pace due to his work with LSU. He would be able to assist, especially on the offensive side, in helping to scout and determine whether or not a player was worth drafting.

The other upside to Brady’s work at the college level is that he would help Pace when drafting a quarterback. One of the main reasons why many want the Bears’ general manager fired is because of his missed selection of Mitchell Trubisky. Brady would be able to help Pace not just find the best quarterback available but also help develop that quarterback as he did for Burrow.

The Bears’ Situation Could Be Best For Brady

If the Bears have a head coaching vacancy following the end of the 2020 season, Chicago’s head coaching position could be one of the more sought after spots due to the team’s defense. Where other NFL teams looking for a head coach to oversee a total rebuild, the Bears may not be and would have their defense in place for the next coach. The next head coach would only be responsible for fixing Chicago’s offense, which wouldn’t be hard to do.

The Bears’ situation would be perfect for Brady if hired as he could make the team an instant playoff contender. He would be the best option available to turn around the Bears’ struggling offense. With Brady’s college experience, the Bears would be able to rebuild their offensive line and skill positions via the draft.

If he would have someone that had a thorough knowledge of the offense, the team could have a prolonged playoff window as they would be able to build both defense and offense via the draft. Although Pace may have made the wrong hire in Nagy from a long-term standpoint, he can correct it by hiring Brady if he gets a chance to hire a new head coach.
