The Chicago Bears pulled off another late-second comeback to win this year. This time, the stakes were significantly higher. They were going back into the same building where they endured the spirit-breaking Hail Mary last season. Everybody expected the Washington Commanders to take care of business just as they had back then. To the shock of almost everybody, the Bears didn’t let it happen. After falling behind 24-16 at one point, they battled their way back to 24-22 before taking possession with three minutes left. Guided by D’Andre Swift, they marched down the field to set Jake Moody up for a 38-yard field goal to win it.
Nobody dared say the Bears got lucky. They knew they couldn’t. Why? It had become clear throughout the game that Washington wasn’t the only thing they were fighting against. The referees had it out for them, too. Chicago was penalized nine times in the game, and at least half of them were highly questionable. One offensive pass interference forced them to settle for a field goal. Another saw a touchdown taken off the board because of an illegal formation. That is 11 points the Bears were potentially robbed of.
Washington icon Darrell Green admitted after the game that the loss could’ve been much worse if not for some of those calls.
The Chicago Bears showed something unseen before.
They proved they could overcome things like that. Good teams find a way to deal with slanted referee calls and still win games. Previous versions of the Chicago Bears would’ve wilted over the constant setbacks. It looked like they were going to this time as well. After taking a 13-7 lead into the half, the Bears fell behind 24-16 in the 4th quarter. However, Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams refused to bend. After a quick scoring drive to make it 24-22, a turnover by the defense set them up with a chance to win with three minutes left. Johnson called a masterful drive that drained the clock, and Jake Moody took care of the rest on a 38-yard field goal.
Try as the refs might, they couldn’t stop what happened. Mental toughness is building at Halas Hall, and that is the first step towards success.
@ Dr. Melissa. Yeah Luvu has always been dirty, just watch last seasons game. Anyways he not only went Helmet to Helmet, he then flexed over him which should’ve been an automatic 15 on its own. Since one was during the play and the other after that should’ve been 30 yards. Fuck ,if anything ex commie calls out the refs when the calls were for the commies then something clearly needs to change. How about interviews? Maybe fines for obvious “mistakes”? Maybe a suspension? How about if your team calls a game like Monday nights then they have to move to… Read more »
Whoa hold on there rcheezy youre making way too much sense. I’ve always wondered why refs cried for more money and got it with wages over $250k I expect them to do their jobs. So the fact that they got their money but still can’t be interviewed or fined for these obvious shit calls is such BS. Remember the steelers game where Fields got hammered all game with not one call and Big Ben gets legally hit but bumps his head on his own OL knee and an automatic 15 yards. They then give them 15 for the odd sack… Read more »
Hey Dr Steve, youre legend is the one who called the refs out and he wasn’t wrong. Not the Bears fault your previous pencil thin QB not only failed to take advantage but he actively lost the game. Thry tried to blame it on the DB even after it was clear that Jayden and his middle school hand size cost them the win. No fluke win this time, the refs did their best bad thankfully theyre as inept as the commies they tried to hand the game to. Im sure they tried to take the FG off the board but they… Read more »
Line up complainers and cry babies, your dissent is being monitored. Believe it.
The league should look into their sports betting accounts man wow. The bs OPI, formation, roughing the passer and others were all crazy calls. The league cannot let refs get away with making these bogus calls. You want refs to actually do their jobs and make the right calls? Start taking their money away with fines for absurd calls. Or put rules into effect that can challenge any bad call, or have a booth review on bad calls within the last 2 mins on the coaches request. It’s such an easy problem to fix. Refs will never be perfect, but… Read more »
