Bears Send Clear Message To Kevin White

-

The Bears took a leap of faith in 2015 when they drafted an inexperienced wide-receiver with the #7 overall selection out of West Virginia. He was extremely raw, but scouts and draft experts were unanimous on the opinion that he had the potential to be a Top-5 receiver in the league.

If you watched any of his tape coming out of college, you saw explosiveness, blazing speed and overall incredible athletic ability. He set the combine on fire by running a 4.35 40-yard dash at 6’3″ and 215 lbs. The sky was the limit for him as a playmaker and that’s what the Bears were banking on when they drafted him with that premium selection.

We all know how that turned out up to this point though. White has played in five games in three seasons and has amassed only 21 receptions, 193 yards and 0 touchdowns. Not exactly worth that #7 overall selection and the word “bust” gets associated with his name regularly.

The Bears just announced that they were not matching the Saints offer sheet on Cameron Meredith, which now leaves Allen Robison and Taylor Gabriel as the two starters at wide-receiver. It appears that are sending a very clear message to Kevin White..it’s time to step up.

The issue with White has never been talent or ability, but his inability to stay on the field. However, you have to believe that Pace does not allow Meredith to walk if he doesn’t think that White is getting back to full strength and could potentially contribute this season in a big way. It appears that White is healthy and is working hard on getting back onto the field.

There’s a role in the Matt Nagy offense for Kevin White. The offense is predicated on speed and getting open…two things that White excelled at in college. The spotlight has now been swung in White’s direction and all eyes are on him. Again.

It’s now or never. Will he step up and be the receiver we all thought he could be? Bears fans might be content for 50% of what we thought he could be at this point.

Do you think this could be the year that we finally see White resemble something of a wide-receiver?
