The Chicago Bears came away with a huge Monday Night Football win over the Washington Commanders. But that victory now leaves the team with an interesting decision to make — at the kicker position.
Cairo Santos was sidelined with an injury, so the Bears brought in former third-round pick Jake Moody to fill in. And man, did he deliver. Sure, one of his field goals was blocked, but outside of that, he was perfect in brutal conditions — wind, rain, and all. Moody went 3-for-3 on his other attempts, including the game-winning kick that came after a Jayden Daniels fumble. The Bears offense capitalized on the field position, driving for multiple first downs to set up what should have been an easy 38-yarder. Still, every Bears fan held their breath — until Moody nailed it.
After the game, Moody said, “You’re only as good as your next kick.” That kind of mindset says a lot. Now, Chicago faces a legitimate dilemma.
Santos is the most accurate kicker in Bears history, but his leg strength has always been limited. That’s part of why Moody was drafted in the third round by San Francisco in 2023. Yes, he struggled with accuracy there, which led to his release — but as Ben Johnson noted postgame, maybe all Moody needed was a change of scenery.
If Santos lands on injured reserve, Moody could get a longer audition in Chicago. Either way, this performance should spark a real conversation inside Halas Hall. Moody’s talent and leg power are hard to ignore — but moving on from a team captain like Santos wouldn’t be easy.
My K Cairo is the Bears best player!!
That would be a very poor idea to let Santos go because Moody had a good day and hit a game winner. There’s only a few other kickers in the league id take over Santos kicking a 55 yard or less game winning FG. Dude has been money when hes been called upon.
@Veece, as a Bear, Santos is at 90% (89.7) and as Arnie pointed out 21 of 25 in 50+. Some clown here writes that Santos doesnt have a leg and it becomes fact? Research, get to know your kicker.
Miss Sallie… I said Santos is accurate (around 85%). But I also questioned how many CRITICAL kicks he missed. PROOF… 2024 – FAILED game winner: The Packers block on Nov 17th was only a 46-yd attempt that would have won the game! THE FOLLOWING WEEK: Vikings BLOCK a 48-yd attempt and kept the Bears from winning the game outright. The Vikes won the game in OT. Santos cost us TWO WINS! He was short on a 56-yd attempt earlier in the year. No leg. And the Packers confirmed that they, like other teams, had studied Santos tendency to have LOW… Read more »
